Calculate when to leave
Leave-by time = departure minus airport arrival buffer minus journey time minus road/transfer contingency.
For an 18:00 domestic flight, a planned one-hour journey and 30-minute contingency mean leaving at 14:30 to reach the terminal at 16:00. For an 18:00 international flight with the same journey assumptions, leave at 13:30 to aim for 15:00.
Those journey and contingency times are worked examples, not measured times from every Delhi neighborhood. Check traffic from your actual address. Add time if collecting bags, changing terminals or meeting someone before check-in.
Confirm the terminal, not just "DEL"
Check your current booking and airline flight status for T1, T2 or T3 before selecting a cab pin or Metro station. Terminal assignments can change. Domestic/international is not a rule identifying every flight's terminal.

- Terminal entry: keep ticket/boarding information and valid ID ready. International passengers need their passport and destination documents.

- International immigration: allow time for the departure process where required.
- Gate walk: check the screens for gate changes. Gate closing is before takeoff.
Self-service and web check-in options vary by airline. Do not treat a general airport page as an extension of your flight's deadline.
How early can you enter?
Delhi Airport's departure guide permits ticketed passengers terminal access up to 4 hours before domestic departure and 6 hours before international departure. This is different from the recommended two/three-hour arrival buffer.
If you arrive earlier, ask the airport or airline about your situation rather than assuming terminal or lounge access. Transfer passengers can have different arrangements; a lounge booking does not override security rules.
When to add more time
Add a realistic buffer for heavy traffic, holidays, mobility assistance, children, oversized baggage, uncompleted check-in or visa/document checks. Fog can affect both roads and flights. A delay display is not permission to miss the original reporting deadline unless your airline explicitly changes it.
