Phone with emergency contacts for a Delhi trip

Save 112 before you land: it is Delhi's single emergency number for police, fire and ambulance. Add 1363 (the 24/7 tourist helpline, which works in English and ten foreign languages), 1091 (women's helpline) and 155370 (Delhi Metro helpline), plus your hotel, airline and embassy numbers. All the government helplines below are free to call from an Indian SIM.

Delhi is moving its separate emergency lines onto 112 in phases, announced in January 2026. The older short codes such as 100 (police), 101 (fire) and 102 (ambulance) still connect during the switch, so either works.

155370Delhi Metro (DMRC) helpline, including complaints about the women's coach and lost items
139Indian Railways enquiry and passenger helpline
1095Delhi Traffic Police helpline
Your airlineRebooking, delays and lost baggage; save the number from your booking confirmation
Your embassyLost or stolen passport; most embassies list a 24-hour emergency line on their website

For airport questions, use the contact details on the official Delhi Airport website or your airline's app; third-party "airport customer care" numbers found online are often wrong.

When to call which number#

  • Someone is hurt, there is a fire, or you are in danger: call 112. Say where you are as precisely as possible: the nearest metro station, landmark or hotel name.
  • You have been scammed or overcharged: call 1363. The tourist helpline gives advice in your language and can alert the authorities. For theft, also go to the nearest police station to file a report.
  • Harassment: call 1091 or 112. On the metro, tell station staff or call 155370.
  • Lost passport: file a police report (online or at a station), then contact your embassy with a copy of the report.
  • Lost item in a cab: use the "lost item" option in the Uber or Ola app; drivers can be contacted through the trip.
If you don't have an Indian SIM

112 works from any phone, including foreign SIMs and phones without a SIM. Toll-free numbers like 1363 may not connect from a foreign SIM; ask your hotel desk to call for you or buy a local SIM at the airport (see the airport SIM guide).

What to keep on your phone#

  • A photo of your passport photo page and visa, plus a paper copy kept separately from the original.
  • Your hotel's name and address in English and Hindi, to show drivers.
  • Your travel insurance policy number and its emergency assistance line.
  • Offline maps of Delhi, so you can share your location without data.

Share your live location with someone you trust when you travel late, and use the trip-sharing button in Uber or Ola.

Hospitals with 24-hour emergency departments#

Large hospitals with round-the-clock emergency care include AIIMS (Ansari Nagar), Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (government), and private hospitals such as Sir Ganga Ram, Max Saket, Fortis and Apollo. For anything serious, call 112 or ask your hotel to arrange transport; app cabs are often faster than waiting for an ambulance in traffic.
